Challenge

The main challenge in this project was to transform a standard WordPress + WooCommerce theme setup into a fully functional jewelry manufacturing and pricing system.

Instead of building everything from scratch, the goal was to work within an existing theme structure and extend it in a way that could support complex business logic such as dynamic metal pricing, multi-currency support, and custom jewelry workflows.

The challenge was not the visual foundation, but the system-level requirements:

Integrating advanced pricing logic into a theme-based WooCommerce setup
Ensuring compatibility between custom functionality and existing theme structure
Maintaining performance while handling real-time API-based calculations
Extending WordPress beyond its default eCommerce capabilities without breaking core updates or theme behavior

My Solution

Instead of rebuilding the website from scratch, I used an existing WooCommerce theme and focused on building a custom system layer on top of it.

The core of the solution was a custom WordPress plugin: Jewelry Pricing Engine.

This plugin extended WooCommerce with advanced pricing and business logic capabilities that the theme itself does not support.

1. Advanced Dynamic Pricing Engine

I implemented a formula-based pricing system that calculates product prices based on:

Live metal rates (Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium)
Product weight
Purity levels (24K, 22K, 18K, etc.)
Making charges
Wastage and tax rules

This replaced static pricing with a fully dynamic system inside WooCommerce.

2. Theme-Compatible Integration

Since the project was built on an existing theme, all custom functionality was carefully integrated without breaking:

Theme templates
WooCommerce layout structure
Product page UI
Cart and checkout flow

The plugin was designed to override pricing logic without affecting the frontend theme design system.

3. Multi-Currency and Geo-Based Pricing System

The system automatically detects user location and applies:

Currency conversion (100+ currencies)
Country-based pricing zones
Region-specific tax and pricing rules

This allowed the same product to behave differently depending on the visitor’s location.

4. Custom Jewelry Inquiry System

Instead of relying on generic contact forms, I built a structured lead generation system inside WooCommerce that allows users to submit:

Metal type and purity
Weight and quantity
Design references
Custom requirements

This converted unstructured inquiries into organized, production-ready data.

5. Scalable Backend Architecture

Even within a theme-based setup, the plugin was built with a modular architecture including:

Custom database tables
API integrations for metal and exchange rates
Cron-based updates for pricing data
Admin dashboard for full system control

This ensured the system remained scalable and maintainable.

The Result

The final implementation successfully transformed a standard WordPress theme-based WooCommerce store into a dynamic jewelry pricing and manufacturing system.

Key outcomes:

Eliminated manual pricing updates through full automation
Enabled real-time metal-based product pricing inside WooCommerce
Introduced structured custom jewelry inquiry workflows
Improved global readiness with multi-currency and geo pricing support
Extended theme-based WooCommerce setup into a custom commerce engine

Overall, the project demonstrates the ability to go beyond theme-based limitations and build custom business logic systems on top of WordPress infrastructure.
